Kathmandu, A six-month Chinese language training program for tourism professionals successfully concluded on December 16, 2024, in Kathmandu. Jointly organized by the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), the Chinese Embassy in Nepal, and the Nepal China Cultural and Educational Council (NCCEC), this initiative marked its sixth iteration, underscoring its growing importance in enhancing Nepal’s tourism potential.
The concluding ceremony was attended by distinguished guests, including Mr. Hikmat Singh Ayer, Senior Director of NTB, Mr. Ram Krishna Lamichhane, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA), Mr. Wang Xin, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Chinese Embassy, and Dr. Harish Chandra Shah, Chairperson of NCCEC. This year, 100 participants enrolled in the program, out of which 40 successfully met the required standards of Chinese language proficiency and received certification.
These certified professionals are now better equipped to address the needs of the increasing number of Chinese tourists visiting Nepal. In his remarks, Mr. Hikmat Singh Ayer emphasized the importance of language skills in the tourism sector. “Language proficiency is a cornerstone of effective hospitality and cross-cultural communication. NTB is proud to collaborate on this initiative to strengthen the skills of our tourism workforce,” he stated.
Mr. Wang Xin, Deputy Chief of Mission, highlighted the strong bilateral ties between Nepal and China. “This program is a testament to the deepening friendship between our two nations. It reflects our commitment to cultural and economic cooperation,” he remarked. Similarly, Dr. Harish Chandra Shah, Chairperson of NCCEC, expressed his gratitude to all involved, saying, “I extend my heartfelt thanks to the participants, trainers, and partner organizations for their dedication in making this program a success.”
NTB has remained proactive in equipping tourism professionals with skills in areas such as language proficiency, digital marketing, and hospitality management. These efforts are part of NTB’s broader strategy to enhance Nepal’s tourism sector’s competitiveness on the global stage.
