Kathmandu, Russian photographer Yuri Rodichev was honored in Kathmandu for his exceptional contributions to promoting Nepal. Rodichev, who has visited Nepal 32 times in the past 21 years and launched his photo book The Himalayas in Pokhara, was awarded the title of 'Tourism Ambassador of Nepal' by Concept Nepal, a youth tourism organization. His photos of Nepal have been showcased 181 times in various Russian cities, bringing the country's beauty and culture to an international audience.
Pawan Shakya of Concept Nepal praised Rodichev's unparalleled efforts in promoting Nepal, and environmentalist Debendra Basnyat presented him with the award at a ceremony in Thamel.
Tourism experts like Jyoti Adhikari and Karna Lama expressed disappointment that the Nepal Tourism Board does not adequately honor foreign promoters like Rodichev, despite their immense contributions to the country's tourism sector.
"The Nepal Tourism Board should recognize and appoint individuals like Yuri, who promote Nepal globally, as tourism ambassadors," says Jyoti Adhikari, former president of TAN. Rodichev, who first visited Nepal at the age of 63, has since fallen in love with the country, trekking across its diverse landscapes and climbing several of its peaks.
A photographer since the age of 14, Rodichev has faced numerous challenges in capturing his stunning images. He frequently travels with his wife, Ana, and is excited about the upcoming Russian edition of The Himalayas. The 184-page book, published by Books Himalaya, is available for Rs 3500.
